Why It Matters

A pond that has shaped
this community
for three centuries.

St. John's Pond is not simply a scenic landmark. It is a functioning freshwater ecosystem — home to seven federally protected species — and it is under serious threat. The dam's wooden spillway weir is actively failing. Without intervention, it could drain twelve feet of water into Cold Spring Harbor.

This benefit is the community's answer. Each year we gather here to make the restoration possible — and to remind ourselves what we're protecting.
